Courtesy Pattern : CP02 - An Oldie but a Goodie?

I designed this little fella years ago (2009/10 - I believe - I can tell from my notes because I used a "0" thread hook - hee hee), but never finished my own doll and never did anything with the pattern...  
He's been tested by testers years ago, but I never did finish him up or write him up correctly ...
until NOW!



The Gingerbread Boy
Materials Used in Model:
Red Heart® Classic® WW 4-Ply Yarn in 0336 Warm Brown, 0311 White, 0672 Spring Green and 0319 Cherry Red
Fiberfill
Size US F/5-3.75mm Crochet Hook  (testers have used up to a "G" hook - however Model in photograph was actually hooked with Sz 0 Steel Thread Hook

8mm Safety eyes
Crochet or Yarn Needle for Sewing
Long Straight Pins for positioning



This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise noted.  Stuff your piece as you work as there are NO “stuff here” indicators present within the pattern instructions.

Head:  (Make 1)
with Warm Brown,
Chain 6, 
___ Rnd 1: Inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, 4 sc in end ch st - turn piece to allow you to work up the other side of original beg chain (as if a flat round), sc in ea of nxt 3 sts  Inc in nxt st (14 sts)
___ Rnd 2: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Inc in nxt st, sc in nxt st] twice  (18 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 5 sts, Inc in nxt st, sc in nxt st] twice  (22 sts)
___ Rnd 4: [sc in nxt st, Inc in ea of nxt 2 sts, sc in ea of nxt 5 sts, Inc in ea of nxt 2 sts, sc in nxt st] twice   (30 sts)
___ Rnd 5: sc in ea st around  (30 sts)
___ Rnd 6: sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, (Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 4 sts) 5 times, Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 2 sts  (36 sts)
___ Rnds 7-9: sc in ea st around  (36 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 10: sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, (Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in ea of nxt 4 sts) 5 times, Dec nxt 2 sts tog  sc in ea of nxt 2 sts  (30 sts)
___ Rnds 11-12: sc in ea st around  (30 sts)
___ Rnd 13: [sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 6 times (24 sts)
___ Rnd 14: [sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 6 times  (18 sts)
___ Rnd 15: [sc in nxt st, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 6 times  (12 sts)

Body:  (continued from Head)
___ Rnd 16: [sc in nxt st, Inc in ea of nxt 2 sts, sc in nxt st, Inc in ea of nxt 2 sts] twice  (20 sts)
___ Rnd 17: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 6 sts, Inc in nxt st, sc in nxt st] twice  (24 sts)
___ Rnd 18: [sc in nxt st, Inc in ea of nxt 2 sts, sc in ea of nxt 5 sts, Inc in ea of nxt 2 sts, sc in ea of nxt 2 sts]  twice  (32 sts)
___ Rnds 19-20: sc in ea st around  (32 sts/ea rnd)

Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to weave through the front loops of Rnd 32 to close opening.  Secure and weave in remaining tail to hide.


Arm:  (Make 2)
with Warm Brown,
Chain 4, 
___ Rnd 1: Inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in nxt st, 4 sc in end ch st - turn piece to allow you to work up the other side of original beg chain (as if a flat round), sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st (10 sts)
___ Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Inc in nxt st] twice  (14 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st, sc in ea of nxt 4 sts, Inc in nxt st] twice  (18 sts)
___ Rnds 4-5: sc in ea st around  (18 sts)
___ Rnd 6: [sc in nxt st, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in ea of nxt 4 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] twice  (14 sts)

Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to weave through the front loops of Rnd 18 to close opening.  Secure and weave in remaining tail to hide or use tail to secure Arm to side of Body.




Leg:  (Make 2)
* for a doll that can stand independently, remember to stuff foot area firmly and on hard surface
with Warm Brown,
___ Rnd 1: Using either the [ch 2, begin work in 2nd st from hook] or [magic circle] method to begin project, 8 sc in st  (8 sts)
___ Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (24 sts)
___ Rnd 4: [sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Inc in nxt st] 6 times  (30 sts)
___ Rnd 5: sc in ea st around  (30 sts)
___ Rnd 6: sc in ea of nxt 9 sts, (hdc-Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 6 times, sc in ea of nxt 9 sts  (24 sts)

Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to weave through the front loops of Rnd 16 to close opening.  Secure and weave in remaining tail to hide or use tail to secure Leg to  Body.


Extras
Cheeks (Make 2): with Cherry Red, Using either the [ch 2, begin work in 2nd st from hook] or [magic circle] method to begin project, 7 sc in st  (7 sts)
Gumdrop Buttons (Make 3): with Color of Choice, Using either the [ch 2, begin work in 2nd st from hook] or [magic circle] method to begin project, 6 sc in st  (6 sts).  In back loops only, sc in ea st around.


Finishing:
Using colors of your choice or materials of your choice, embellish your Gingerbread Boy with 'icing' highlighting his ankles, wrists, neck and head with a zig-zaggy pattern.  Everything on your doll should resemble 'candy' like items (licorice, icing, gumdrops, sugars, etc)
Give gingerbread boy a smile between his cheeks.  Model uses a french-knot placed at the center of a "V" like stitch.
