Getting Back to the Business at Hand..

Hookin'!

For *about* the past 3 weeks, it's been a whirl-wind of doctor's appointments (which are still on-going), school/educational meetings, property meetings, birthday celebrations (the last of which will be this Friday), the people's therapy schedule, a long-distance Mother's Day, and the general functions of everyday life.
Time to take a breath...  before beginning the madness all over again!

These are my beautiful Clementis Vines outside my front door.  Although I was unable to catch it's complete splendor - the 'white' flowers (bottom right) of the photo - were supposed to be pink, but have been cross bred with the purple (evidently) and are mostly white with purplish veins - which looks as if they have been airbrushed with just a slight hint of their lush cousins above.

Of course my Evergreens (which were 'throw-aways' from a local store) are thriving and a lush reminder of my favorite time of year.

But the most beautiful things, the ones which truly take my breath away and cause me to take pause - would be nature's landscapers - the truest of true, GREEN engineers.

I admire their simplistic goals - no money for their work - no 'status' - just a job to do for the survival of not only themselves, but their fellow buzzing buddies.

.. and of course the GREEN builder...
One of the people destroyed the original home (accidentally of course on the frantic scramble to meet a school bus - they built a little too close to the sidewalk) and by mid morning, they had restructured the opening cavity.

So, as I said, it's back to work for me also (after Friday anyhow) - single minded goal...
CROCHET.

Courtesy Pattern : CP08 Science 101 - Frog Life Cycle

Materials:
Models use Size G/6 (4mm) Crochet Hook - Gauge is NOT crucial
Red Heart Super Saver Yarns in colors: Honeydew, Spring Green, Tealeaf and the tiniest piece of Hunter Green (a few inches for mouth of frog)
6- 6mm onyx rnd beads (for eyes)/2 for each
Small amounts of Polyfil

TADPOLE
Body:
with Honeydew (or color of choice)

Using whatever method fits you best, [Magic Circle] or [chain 2, begin work in 2nd chain from hook] - 8 sc in st
___ Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (24 sts)
___ Rnds 4-9: sc in ea st around  (24 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 10: [sc in ea of nxt 4 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (20 sts)
___ Rnd 11: [sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 12: sc in ea st around (16 sts)
stuff head and body to this point - rest of the tail can be very LIGHTLY stuffed or left unstuffed (model is only stuffed in head and up to this point).

___ Rnd 13: [sc in ea of nst 2 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (12 sts)
___ Rnds 14-15: sc in ea st around  (12 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 16: [ sc in nxt st, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (8 sts)
___ Rnds17-18: sc in ea st around  (8 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 19: [Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (4 sts)
___ Rnd 20: sc in ea st around, ch 2
Finish off, leaving tail to help shape the end of the tadpole.  Very carefully, trying to keep as much of the ch-2 to keep a 'point' at the end of the tail; sew the small opening closed.
While shaping the tail, remember you aren't making a male's tadpole *smile* - give the tail a more box-y look by first folding the tail flat and stitching it together so that it remains flat; then at about rnd 10, sew from top to bottom.  When finished with shaping, bury tail inside body to hide.  Curl the tail with your hands, by bending in any direction you wish.

Eyes (Make 2)
with Honeydew
Using same method you used to begin body,  4 sc in st.
Finish off.  When sewing eyes to head, ly flat, placing your 6mm bead in center.  There is only a touch of an 'eye bulge' with a tadpole.

METAMORPH
Body:
with Tealeaf

Using whatever method fits you best, [Magic Circle] or [chain 2, begin work in 2nd chain from hook] - 8 sc in st
___ Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (24 sts)
___ Rnds 4-8: sc in ea st around  (24 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 9: [(Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 4 times, sc in ea of nxt 4 sts] twice  (16 sts)
stuff head - tail is only lightly stuffed

___ Rnd 10: sc in nxt st, (Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 3 times,  sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, (Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 3 times, sc in nxt st  (10 sts)
___ Rnd 11: sc in ea st around  (10 sts)
___ Rnd 12: sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in nxt st (8 sts)
___ Rnd 13-14: sc in ea st around (8 sts/ea rnd)

___ Rnd 16: sc in ea st around (6 sts)
___ Rnd 17: [Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 3 times  (3 sts)**
** If this is unattainable, Dec as many times as you can - then finish by sewing the opening closed.
Finish off, bury tail inside body to hide.

Eyes (Make 2)
with Tealeaf,
Using same method you used to begin body,  4 sc in st.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers out there.

May is an incredibly busy month for me!  With birthdays, end of school (IEP) meetings, rental review meetings, and the various other 'events' happening throughout the month of May; it's a wonder I have time to breathe! (My May is like most people's December or November - THAT busy!)

Cue Mother's Day - it's the 1 day this month (or any month) which I can claim as my own - kick up my toes and just be 'lazy' with no responsibility and no one can say beans about it!

But of course, there are the other little perks of Mother's Day :)
The beautiful reason I am allowed such lethargic luxury.. .. .. my beautiful children.

Okay, umm.. yeah... so they look a little 'rag-a-muffin-ish' here; but I interrupted them in the middle of a fashion show with the Bratz for this photo op.

I hope each of you has a glorious Mother's Day and get to spend time just being pampered by your own wonderful families. :)

They Grow Up So Fast...

It's hard to believe that there is a birthday today!  My little girl is turning 10!! Double digits!!  (harder still to believe that I've put up with the hub that long... *sigh*)

A Cinco de Mayo baby.. which would perhaps mean more if we were of Mexican descent ..
although today will not actually be the 'party' - there's the cake and the dinner that needs being tended to.

Where does the time go?  Before long enough, she'll be making me a grandma...
*sniffles*  I miss her walking around on her knees and drinking from a 'sippy cup'.

Most of all, I miss my figure from 10 years ago :)

of course, in about 2 weeks, we have the other one's birthday as well :)

In celebration of these birthdays, I will be posting a free pattern on my blog sometime next week.
