Someday at Christmas...

SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS MEN WON'T BE BOYS
PLAYING WITH BOMBS LIKE KIDS PLAY WITH TOYS
ONE WARM DECEMBER OUT HEARTS WILL SEE
A WORLD WHERE MEN ARE FREE

SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS THERE'LL BE NO WARS

WHEN WE HAVE LEARNED WHAT CHRISTMAS IS FOR
WHEN WE HAVE FOUND WHAT LIFE'S REALLY WORTH
THERE'LL BE PEACE ON EARTH

SOMEDAY ALL OUR DREAMS WILL COME TO BE
SOMEDAY IN A WORLD WHERE MEN ARE FREE
MAYBE NOT IN TIME FOR YOU AND ME
BUT SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMASTIME

SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS WE'LL SEE A LAND
WITH NO HUNGRY CHILDREN - NO EMPTY HAND
ONE HAPPY MORNING PEOPLE WILL SHARE
A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE CARE

SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS THERE'LL BE NO TEARS
WHEN ALL MEN ARE EQUAL AND NO MAN HAS FEARS
ONE SHINING MOMENT - ONE PRAYER AWAY
FROM OUR WORLD TODAY

SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMAS MEN WILL NOT HAVE FAILED
HATE WILL BE GONE AND LOVE WILL HAVE PREVAILED
SOMEDAY IN A WORLD THAT WE CAN ALL START

WITH HOPE IN EVERY HEART.
SOMEDAY AT CHRISTMASTIME
~Jackson5

The love of family and friends. A renewal of faith and hope. And happiness that lasts throughout the year. These are your gifts I hope you receive this Christmas.
Wishing you and your family a very safe and Merry Christmas.

Regis the Baby Reindeer is NOW Available

There was a slight interpretation issue that had to be corrected... and then there was the matter of my Hubby's birthday yesterday :)
Birthdays are always a big deal in this house!  Plenty of love and family time - as we teach our children to never take for granted the time you have been given on this Earth.
Ahh, but men being men - and the Hub being the Hub, he's got the people convinced that he is in his 30's and much younger than Mommy.
BUT!  He and I both know the truth.  *grin*

Anyways,
Regis is now up for sale at FiberDoodles by K4TT on etsy and I will have him up for sale here on the blog as well by the end of the weekend.
For your convenience, and since there is only 2 wks left before Christmas, I will keep a double listing up of Regis until Sunday.  This way, you will not have to wait for him to be re-listed.

Thank you to Kerri for testing and JR for photography.

Introducing Regis the Baby Reindeer

Did you know that Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer is 72 years old this year? Everyone knows Rudolph, he's had great press for the past 70+ years - but his offspring are a little less known.

Regis is one little reindeer that just cannot wait to join the ranks of Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Prancer and Vixen; and one day become a flyer, just like his famous relatives.
It takes many years to rise to the challenge of pulling Santa's Sleigh.
First, reindeer have to play Reindeer Games so they can grow big and strong; but these aren't the Reindeer Games like Sleigh Races and Rooftop Hopping.  These games involve you and your little ones.

Have you ever stopped and wondered just how Santa Claus knows exactly who's naughty and who's nice each year? Or have your little one's ever forgotten to write up their Christmas wishlist, yet Santa Claus knows exactly what to bring?

Well, it's little fledgling fliers, like Regis, who become the eyes and ears of Santa Claus and report back to the North Pole all the good deeds (and not-so-good deeds) of children all over the world.

Regis is ready to come to life, with a little Christmas (and of course, Crochet) Magic.  Start a new tradition in your family with this adorable little amigurmi friend. When crochet'd with a Size G hook, Regis measures approximately 10.5 inches in height in the sitting position - but should you prefer to create him in either the poseable or standing position, he measures approximately 14 inches in height.

Maya the KISS Angel

Maya is currently available for purchase at FiberDoodles by K4TT on Ravelry.com for your holiday crocheting pleasure.

This little K.I.S.S. Angel, the newest in the K.I.S.S. Series, is pushing the boundaries of "keeping it simple" due to one slightly challenging method in which to make her knees and elbows bend.

Aside from that, which could always be 'overlooked' and just crocheted static, she's as simple as the rest of the K.I.S.S. Series and every bit as adorable.

She'd make the perfect little angel for your little angel - model measuring nearly 16 inches tall when crocheted with a Size G hook and using Worsted Weight yarns.

Name Her and She's Yours

On Monday, I introduced you to the K.I.S.S. Angel...

Sadly, there is a serious problem with her... one that simply cannot be overlooked or ignored...
she doesn't have a name!!!
Can't have a dolly out there in the world who doesn't have a name to go with her..

So, time for a CONTEST..

So okay, we need a name - if your name is chosen, you will receive the K.I.S.S. Angel in your eMail absolutely free -

Rules:
1) You may enter as many times as you'd like, however each entry must be as a separate comment.
2) In the event 2 people come up with the same name, the first time stamp gets credit for the entry
3) the deadline is Monday, November 21th at MIDNIGHT (Eastern Standard) with the winner to be announced Tuesday once she becomes available at FiberDoodles by K4TT on etsy.

Please remember to post your email address in the comment or I will have no way to send you your pattern.
I will use a random drawing method - however, I will also read reasons for the name you choose, should you include a reason.. Who knows?  A name could move me so much, we may have multiple winners.

So... let's begin!

G'Morning Angel

A glorious Monday morning that I woke to.  There is a crispness on the air - the birds singing and squirrels frolicking in the backyard...  such beauty that one only needs to look and see to appreciate.
But who has the time anymore?
Who just steps out their door with coffee (or tea) takes in a deep breath and admires the beauty that is all around them?  A beauty that can't be packaged, bought or wrapped...

It is these types of mornings, which bring me the most inspiration..
It was this sort of morning, a week or so ago, when I had a vision for an Angel.  Feverishly I worked on getting her just right.  From the waves in her hair, to the look of her sandals... of course, keeping every stitch as simple as possible.

I think she is perfect.  Of course, I am bias..
This little K.I.S.S. Angel, the newest in the K.I.S.S. Series, is pushing the boundaries of  "keeping it simple" due to one slightly challenging method in which to make her knees and elbows bend - Yup, I said it; "her knees and elbows bend."   (yours don't?).
Aside from that, which could always be 'overlooked' and just crocheted static, she's as simple as the rest of the K.I.S.S. Series and every bit as adorable.

She is currently in the 'testing' phase and will have her photo shoot mid-week and then available for you at FiberDoodles by K4TT etsy.  She'd make the perfect little angel for your little angel - model measuring nearly 16 inches tall when crocheted with a Size G hook and using Worsted Weight yarns.

Angels are so perfect for this time of year... when we think of all we've accomplished over the past 12 months - and more importantly, what's still left to be done.
We all could use an angel watching over us...

Poultry is Poultry?

Readers who've followed me long enough, know that I get some of the wildest excitement from seeing my doodles done by another's hand.  Their version of my vision.  The artistic flare that their eye sees when they view one of my doodles.  What their mind actually envisions when they view one of my completed designs.    Where they would take it, how they would do it differently.. make it 'their own'.

It's just very ... it is amazing to see where others take you on their journey of creativity.  I find myself often thinking  - OMG!  I didn't even see that!  How original!  Something as simple as a color change, or an extra embellishment here or there...  well it really can put a whole new spin on a design.

In April of this year, a brilliantly creative client of mine had purchased several patterns from both the KISS Series as well as the Sculptured line.   She was generous enough to share the photographs of her wonderful KISS Zebra and Lion; but it had been some time since I had heard from her. The last I heard, she said she was going to begin working on a bunny...

That was until the other day..
"Dear K4TT, a few months ago I purchased your Pilan the Poult pattern and I was so busy I never got to create it. I just wanted to share these few pictures with you. Your pattern was a great inspiration when a friend of mine needed a hen for a Christmas gift for her 2 year old niece. I just used your body part as head and vice versa (to have a smaller and more hen-like head) and created a comb. My friend loves it very very much and I can't wait till Christmas to hear about her niece's reaction. So thank you very much for you great work! You are my inspiration."

UPDATE: "My friend likes the chicken so much that she won't give it away and she will give it to her daughter instead. Just to keep it home."

Needless to say, I am so thrilled!  Thrilled!!!  I LOVE the chicken!!  I think it is so brilliant!!  So adorable and just the sweetest derivative works created from one of my designs!

Hmm.. I think I may actually want it to come to the States to live with me... :)

Thank you for sharing Zuzana - Your friend is truly blessed to have you in her life.  It is wonderful clients like you, Zuzana, which inspire me.  I want to see what you do with Maxie... hmm.. but since you've not purchased him, I think I will just have to send him to you.

A Turkey's Lament

When I was a young turkey and new to the coop,
My big brother Mike took me out on the stoop.
He then sat me down, while he spoke really slow,
and told me there were somethings that I just had to know;

His look and his tone I will always remember,
When he spoke of the horrors of . . . "Black November".

"Come about August, now listen to me,
you'll be feed several times daily, instead of just three.
Each day you'll get thicker, where once you were thin,
and you'll grow a big rubbery thing under your chin.

Then one morning, when you're all warm in your bed,
the farmer's wife will burst in and she'll hack off your head!
She'll pluck out your feathers so you're bald and raw pink,
and scoop out all your insides, staight into the sink!
But then comes the worst part" he said not bluffing,
"She'll spread your cheeks and pack your rear-end with stuffing!"

Well, the rest of his words, I find too grim to repeat,
so, I sat on the stoop, like a winged piece of meat.
That's when I decided to avoid being cooked,
I would have to lay low and remain overlooked.

I began a new diet of nuts and granola,
High-roughage salads, juice and diet cola.
As the rest of the birds ate pastries, chocolates and crepes,
I stayed in my room working out to Jane Fonda tapes.

I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half,
and tried not to notice when the bigger birds laughed.
But it was I who was laughing, although under my breath,
as they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death.

And sure enough when Black November rolled around,
I was the last turkey left in the entire compound.

So now I'm a pet in the farmer's wife's lap;
I haven't a worry, so I eat and I nap.
She held me today, while sewing and humming,
and smiled at me and said "Christmas is coming........"

This young Tom is one Turkey you don't have to feel guilty about sitting on the Thanksgiving Day table.
He is available for your crocheting pleasure at FiberDoodles by K4TT on etsy.  Just like the rest of the KISS Series, the KISS Turkey is crocheted using the simplest of stitches and techniques to create a one of a kind treat for the little ones in your family.  Model was approximately 12 inches in height and about 7 inches in width.
Pattern contains 2 visual aides (tutorials) for both the feet and wings.

This story is one that I eMail each year and still get a chuckle from.

He Is Coming...

There will be a new face coming to etsy this weekend..

I caught glimpses of him out in the wooded area today, mere days before his arrival at the FiberDoodles by K4TT etsy storefront and was able to snap these quick photographs.

The K.I.S.S. Turkey - available this weekend for sale at FiberDoodles by K4TT etsy store.  One Turkey sweet enough to eat ...

...but so cute, you won't want to.

Wow! That's About All I Can Say.

October was one heck of a month!
Aside from many medical issues, which kept me more in bed viewing the world passing by rather than enjoying it - it's the introduction to the 'Holiday Season'.

Within the past few weeks- Wow!  That is all I can say ..

I won't go into all of it, but seriously, where have manners gone?
Remember "thank you"?  Have people become so self-absorbed to remember those 2 very small, but incredibly formidable words?  Very Sad!

Perfect timing perhaps... as November is the time when we - even if only superficially and for one day - "give thanks".

People often ask me "Why.." - "Why don't you just sell your patterns?  Why give quality patterns away for free?  So-n-So doesn't do it....  You need to stop just giving your talent away".   (taken from an actual eMail omitting the other designer(s) names of course!)
And I tell you, through the month of October, I began to ask myself the same question.

But through all the selfish...
through all of the "it's all about me" ugliness...
that has seemingly blanketed September and October like those fake cobwebs clumped up on the dying leaves of a New England Autumn slumbering tree-
Thursday, I received an eMail from one of my blog viewers and it truly brightened my weekend and reminded me "why".

Ailsa is a blog viewer only - to the best of my knowledge, she is not a 'follower' or 'client' or 'friend'.  This was the first time she'd contacted me.. and why?
Not to ask me questions about sales or remind me how tough times are asking for a free pattern ... but to give me, Katt, a gift.
A wonderfully unselfish gift of the heart.

Ailsa used her imagination and creativity and the Giraffe Pillow Pal as a base - and created gifts of her own for small children in her family.

"Hi, My name is Ailsa and I absolutely love your patterns, I have made the giraffe for one of my nephews and he takes it everywhere with him, his baby brother has started wanting it so I decided to make him one but realized they would be the same, so I made the giraffe but in cow colours! So I thought Id show you so you could use it if you wanted, the pattern is the same the only difference is the bits of black on his back which I just made up as I stitched and the udders which is basically a circle and a few smaller versions of the ossicornes.
I hope you like it
Thank you for your fantastic patterns and your clear instructions!"

My heart is light  -  my eyes ready to burst with tear and my nose tingling.  Not only sharing that I have inspired - that one of my patterns has benefited a child - that the child adores the doodle created.. Ailsa and my clients and blog viewers like her, give me a gift each time they share such heart warming stories with me.

Ailsa, check your eMail - while you are most welcome to use your creativity for your reindeer needs, I have taken the liberty of eMailing you the KISS Reindeer as well as the entire KISS Easter Collection.

Many Blessings to you and yours.
May thankfulness and generosity be as inspirational and contagious as humanly possible.  Pay It Forward is more than a 'movie' - it's a state of well-being.

Baby Boo Makes His DayBoo

Ha Ha, couldn't resist...

Baby Boo with his little Pumpkin made his debut in the FiberDoodles by K4TT etsy shop late last night.  This frightfully adorable little ghost is perfect for the office, kitchen decor or just to keep your little one company while watching their favorite Halloween spooky tale.

The pattern is written so that those who are familiar and comfortable with making jointed dolls, can easily use this technique to make Boo pose-able (legs and arms) or have him in the static standing position.

Listed as "Intermediate" and under the heading of "Scupt gurumi" - Boo's hardest feature is the detailing of the chubby cheeks area.   If you've wanted to try one of my Scupt gurumi pieces, but thought it a bit too detail oriented, this is the perfect pattern for you to get your feet wet with.

(Wo)Man Does Not Live by Iced Coffee Alone...

Which is apparent from my brief hospital stint for dehydration...

As some may know, or may not know, I have been battling "walking pneumonia" for about 3 wks now.  I say battling, as apparently, I am losing the battle and this bug is/was kicking my butt!
Finally back home with hooks and yarn, I am able to get back to work..

Here is what's coming up..
(WARNING: rough photos ahead) ...

All will be available in the next few days -

KISS Ghostie  (which although being released a *bit* late, only takes a few hours to make, so there is still plenty of time for your Halloween Needs)

Harvest Goodie Bags (Pumpkin and Scarecrow) will be released later this week (probably this weekend) on this BLOG as the next *free* pattern and are perfect for small treats.

Baby Boo w/ his Little Pumpkin : BB as we call him around here, is about 10 inches tall and frightfully adorable!  Perfect for your haunting decor or for your little one to cuddle up with while watching all their Halloween tales.

KISS Sad Donkey - The next KISS installment to the Best Friends Series (you know which one I mean).

and the boxes..

hmm.. well, the boxes..

One box is filled with Toys for a local Women's Shelter for their Christmas needs this year.  In addition to the Cat Blankets which I showed you earlier this year in Pause 4 Paws - (which has 40 more pads for a total of 60, now to start crocheting mice, birds and fish toys..oy!) - there are 50 stuffed KISS and Plush doodles ready to go for the holiday needs of children who's lives have been uprooted by domestic violence.  I am still hoping to get another 25 done for the local police department...

Now, the other box...
Although I stopped taking custom orders to accommodate the Holiday charity needs for the 2011 season; these are some requests that I have been asked about on etsy.  The finished items of such favorites as the KISS Lamb and Bunny as well as the KISS Sock Monkey and even 1 complete set of the KISS Friends will be offered up in my etsy shop for your holiday needs.  So those who've been asking for Finished Items - here's your chance to get one before the holidays. I will begin listing these items next week.
