Love Those Hooters On this, the final day of FDbyK4TT helping to spread awareness for this year's Breast Cancer Awareness Month; I would be remiss if I didn't share with my readers the most valuable information for breast health. Not only good diet, healthy habits and regular Mammograms (beginning at age 30 and regularly, once a year, every year there after), but also 'self-checks' MONTHLY. The link contained above, will help to provide the best methods for the personal detection of concerns in the breast.   Perhaps the most important part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is not the pretense of saying "hey.. did you know this disease exists" - but to set a 'clock of sorts', to remind everyone to take a single day every October - to check yourself and make sure you are doing all you can to prevent or detect Breast Cancer. Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to secure Beak between eyes on Owl. With contrasting color (Baby Pink used in model) embroider some "V" stitches to simulate 'feathers' on belly area of your Owl. With White, add points of light to the eyes if you used fiber to create them. Model used a wire brush to 'fuzz out' the head feathers. Continuing this week with the emphasis on Breast Cancer Awareness...
We have lost MANY women to this disease.. the well known, 

and the not so well known; like 'that cool lady down the road, who hands out the full-sized candy bars' at Halloween..

The Hubby Cushion -  Originally created as a "Father's Day gag gift", simple color changes to pinks and white could create a truly obvious "Breast" Pillow or Mastectomy Pillow by 'omitting' one of the breasts.

The Janelle Blanket - Originally created as a Baby Blanket, those going through Chemo (Chemotherapy) will appreciate the warmth of a small 'lap style' blanket over a larger afghan.

Awareness Ribbons - Some may not realize that some time ago, I had put up a complimentary pattern for very simple Awareness Ribbon that can be added to pins, prayer cards, etc.  At under 3 inches, these ribbons can fit a variety of needs.

The Little Love Pillow - Originally created as a Valentine's Day treat, those avoiding that first boob squish (Mammogram) or their yearly checkup, could have their appointment made 'for them' by a loving partner, friend or parent, and presented their 'gift' in the pocket of this small pillow.

The Weenie Owl - Originally created as a homage to Harry Potter for a 12 Days of Christmas celebration - simple color changes can transform this "comical hooter" into a meaningful plush for someone who needs a pick me up.

We CAN celebrate Halloween, while also spreading Breast Cancer Awareness... with just a little bit of "creative thinking".
These little guys are essentially modifications to Ay & Zhe to create the BOO BEES. ("boobies" as breasts are often called by young children) 

Little Bumble Bees dressed up as ghosts.  I thought it would also look really cute in a light pink, but thought about it after the fact.

But in sharing the awareness & the holiday, there are some important facts to remember about Breast Cancer.  While breast cancer is not preventable; you can lower your risks with lifestyle modifications.  The more you know about the disease, the more likely you are to seek treatment and have a greater chance of beating Breast Cancer!

Chain 11, Yarn over (yo), insert the hook in the 3rd ch from hook, *yarn over, draw through ch, yo, and draw through the 2 loops on the hook*, repeat 4 more times, yo, draw through all 6 loops on hook, slst into same ch, slst in ea of nxt 7 chs, hdc in nxt ch  (9 chs/1 Bobble)
Finish off, leaving sufficient tail to secure Antennae to Head between Eyeballs.


Nose: (Make 1)

Whoever is responsible for establishing "Awareness Months" did a serious injustice to the seriousness of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Competing with such a "fun and child oriented" holiday as Halloween - steals the focus from those who would most benefit from the 'reminder'.

Did you know, that 1 in every 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime?
Or that almost 42 thousand women will die from breast cancer this year? and that is just in the US alone.
Did you also know that Women are NOT the only ones who can develop breast cancer?

So this week, I am going to focus not on Halloween - everyone else is doing that - but on Breast Cancer Awareness, with the release of a few Breast Cancer Awareness patterns - the first one here:
