Panda Therapy

My Mum knew I had been feeling 'down lately' so she sent me one of those annoying 'pass-it-along' emails which I always get on her case for forwarding to me.  (My Mum is the Princess of SPAM Mail) This particular email caught my attention with the Subject of "Panda Therapy".
OMG... there were about 15 photos of these absolutely gorgeous creatures in various adorable positions.  Lying on a bamboo branch, sleeping, eating...

Once again, Mum was right..
Panda Therapy was just what the doctor ordered!

Introducing, Qinling the Giant Panda Cub.

In the wild, the Giant Panda spends its life roaming in the bamboo forests of the Qinling Mountains.  These creatures fascinate and inspire me and my diet.  Did you know that although the panda has a digestive track that would allow it to be a 'carnivore', it prefers eating bamboo shoots.  Vegetarians! (Just cause you can, doesn't mean you should - my motto!)
But perhaps my love of this endangered, exotic beauty is the simplicity of the message that I receive mentally each time I see one.  Yin-Yang.. Black/White..

Qinling will be available soon in my etsy store.

Earth Day - How Green Did You Get?

I am one who thinks that "Earth Day" or "Earth Week" is getting just as commercial as Christmas or Valentines' Day.

Don't get me wrong!!  I try to live green DAILY - not just because it's the 'in thing' at the moment, but because it's the RIGHT thing to do to keep on living.

But now, it seems it's being packaged and marketed and.. well, I just don't know that it's a 'Good Thing'.  Whenever you 'market' something, you run the risk of desensitizing people to it's true meaning and importance.

How about this.. how about simply RESPECTING the place you call home?

We, the people of this Planet are RENTING..
we don't own this planet - we have no hand what-so-ever in it's creation.  We don't create it's mountains, it's lakes, it's continents or oceans.  We cannot control the weather or the seasons..
And from a 'selfish' stand-point that every single human on this planet SHOULD reflect upon for a moment - if we destroy this planet... WE HAVE NO PLACE ELSE TO GO.

But on a whole, we strive to destroy.  Not intentionally.. no
It would take someone really 'thick' to intentionally go about destroying the very thing that gives us life - but in our own ways, we take our planet for granted and thus - destroy it daily.

Many people think you have to become some sort of extremist to 'go green'.
But it's simple.. really.

PAY YOUR BILLS ONLINE - save a tree, save the paper in the landfill.  We have the Internet, use it for something more than just surfing, chatting and emailing. Most banks have secure Online Bill Pay, if they don't have it - suggest they start it!

PICK UP THAT TRASH - Why walk by the bottle laying on the ground?  Would it really hurt you to take a minute and throw it in the trashcan which is probably right outside the door of the building your entering any how.  Get rid of the attitude that 'you didn't put it there'.  SO?  Do you like seeing the trash on the streets - that eventually makes it's way into the lakes, streams, rivers, oceans and injures, kills or pollutes??

USE ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY CLEANERS/MATERIALS/PRODUCTS - The cleaning, food and building industries have all finally realized that chemicals are BAD.  Nature and Organic has always been the best alternative - maybe not the cheapest.. but it's like they say "You get what you pay for".  You want 'cheap'?  It comes at a very high price in the long run - perhaps the ultimate price.

PLANT GREEN -  Trees and leaves of plants need the crap we breath out to survive, we need the 'crap' they consider waste to survive.  IT'S A WIN/WIN.. so plant something Green.

See?  Common Sense..
You don't have to go out of your way to be GREEN.  You don't have to inconvenience yourself with 'carpooling' - my God what are they thinking, you may actually have to have... *gasp* a conversation that doesn't involve a keyboard or electricity.

You just have to re-adjust your thinking and resolve yourself that YOU need to do it - not wait for it just to 'be done'.

Yes, the above is a T-Shirt I got today for Volunteer work with the Power Company 'National Grid'

Piddle n Poo: No. 1 and No. 2

Piddle and Poo have been written for almost a year; 'lost' amongst the endless notes and chicken-scratch discards of pattern notes that I re-discovered in my 'spring cleaning' adventures.

And it is perfect timing.. my girlfriend's grand-daughter is going through the dreaded 'Potty Training' phase of her life.  So, as I crochet these for my etsy shop, I decided to add a little rattle inside Piddle to encourage the FUN of being a Big Girl and using the Big Potty.

Each character stands about 8 inches high - so they are perfect for Little Hands!  I think I may have to make more for the 'Big Kids' too as they seem to get a real chuckle from them.

Pattern will be available soon @ FiberDoodles by K4TT on etsy.

Hoist the Colours!

I've not been in much of a 'designing mood' lately.  Various things on my mind (human nature of people disappointing me mostly) as well as a touch of "Spring Fever" perhaps...
In fact, I've been spring cleaning more than I've been hooking..

Now over on Ravelry, they have this 'stash thing' which to the best of my knowledge keeps track of your yarns...
of course, you have to catalog everything in...
these are just the colors that I have used since January ... ummm.. I aint loggin nuttin...

I will be back to designing in no time..
and of course, I will offer up another freebie here..
I am thinking of something to celebrate Earth Day.. we will just have to wait and see what pops out of my brain tho :)

A Day for Myself

Well, not so much a day to myself - but a day to recharge as I prepare to create my next design, which is planned on being the feline variety.
Most people do not realize the effort that goes into designing a pattern for others to work from.  It is very taxing, trying to make sure that you remember to dot every eye, close every closet door ('How to Make a Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich reference) and cross every "T".
And while I absolutely LOVE being able to share 'MY' visions with everyone - I also love to be able to sit back and just FOLLOW someone else's instruction.

Luisa of Picuu, from who I recently purchased a little Spring Time Trio, is an exciting designer full of imagination and unique interpretations.
I have always loved her works and continue to watch her shop for the newest video game icons.. *hint hint* .. lol
But up until now, I had yet to actually make anything I had bought (or won) from her...

These two little rascals, who've already mistaken the dog as a potential mound of furry durt; have yet to receive names.. that should happen in about an hour.. when the people get home from school.

But, yesterday, needing a little break - I showed the people these bunnies - asked them to pick their colors and then cleaned the kitchen.. ...  did the laundry... folded cloths... THEN sat down to begin working...
this little bunny is INCREDIBLY fast to make.. You could make one tonight in time for Easter Sunday if you so choose.  BOTH of these guys were completed and stitched together in ABOUT 8 hours.

Hey Lu :)

I finally made one.. or two .. lol
