Materials:
Red Heart® Classic® WW 4-Ply Yarn in Main School Color, Accent School Color, Skin Tone Color, Hair Color and Black
Size E4/3.50 Crochet Hook (US)
Filling for Plushies (fiberfil or similar)
6mm Black Plastic Beads for Eyes
DumDum Lollipops (or similar product)
Yarn Needle for Sewing
*Optional - Embroidery Floss for hair/tassel

Head/Body (Make 1) :
with Hair Color of Choice,
Rnds 1-5: same, changing to Skin Tone on lst st of Rnd 5
with Skin Tone Color of Choice,
Rnds 6-13: same, changing to Main School Color on lst st of Rnd 13
with Main School Color,
Rnds 13-21: same
Mortarboard (top) (Make 1) :
with Main School Color of Choice,
Rnd 1: Using either the [ch 2, begin work in 2nd st from hook] or [magic circle] method to begin project, 9 sc in st (9 sts)
Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 9 times (18 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, Inc in nxt st] 6 times (24 sts)
Rnd 4: [sc in ea of nxt 5 sts, 3 sc in nxt st] 4 times (32 sts)
Rnd 5: in BLO, slst in ea of nxt 7 sts, ch-1 (sc in ea of nxt 8 sts. Ch-1) 3 times, slst in nxt st (32 sts/4 ch-1)
Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to secure Cap to Mortarboard. Pull on ends (ch-1) to make as square as possible, or block for best results.
Cap (Make 1) : with Main School Color of Choice,
Rnd 1: Using either the [ch 2, begin work in 2nd st from hook] or [magic circle] method to begin project, 9 sc in st (9 sts)
Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 9 times (18 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, Inc in nxt st] 6 times (24 sts)
Rnds 4-5: sc in ea st around (24 sts/ea rnd)
Rnd 6: [sc in ea of nxt 7 sts, hdc-Inc in nxt st] 3 times (27 sts)
Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to secure Cap to Head. Attach Mortarboard to top of Cap then Cap to Head of DumDum
Accent Collar (Make 1) :
with Secondary School Color of Choice,
Chain 22, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea of nxt 7 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, skp nxt st, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in ea of nxt 8 sts (18 sts)
Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to secure Collar to Body.
Arm (Make 2) :
with Skin Tone Color of Choice,
Chain 2, hdc 5 times in 2nd ch from hook, carefully remove hook from last st made, temporarily dropping your loop, and insert your hook into first hdc made, grab loop and pull through as you would if making a slst - slst into same 2nd ch from hook as all other stitches. Finish off. Secure and weave in tails to hide.
with Main School Color of Choice, Chain 7, slip hook into same st as all previous sts (of hand area), then slst in 2nd ch from hook and ea of the remaining 5 chains.
Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to secure Arm to Body.
Alternatively, you can make these pieces separate, then stitch together with your yarn needle.
*(optional) Leg (Make 2) :
with Shoe Color of Choice, Same
Finishing: With School Main Color, slst or surface stitch in around lower part of Body (between Rnds 19 & 20) to create the illusion of a “skirt” to graduation gown.
For Hair, Using either embroidery floss or 2 strands Yarn in Hair color , add some texture to the Head area where you want hair.
With Main School Color, create a large French Knot (or cheat and make a knot then attach) to act as the nob for the tassel. With equal amounts of Main School Color and Accent Color, create a tassel with either 2 strands of yarn or embroidery floss.
