CP65 - Breast Cancer Awareness Keyhole Scarf

Whomever is responsible for establishing "Awareness Months" did a serious injustice to the seriousness of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Competing with such a "fun and child oriented" Holiday as Halloween - steals the focus from those who would most benefit from the 'reminder'.

Did you know, that 1 in every 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime?
Or that almost 42 thousand women will die from breast cancer this year? and that is just in the US alone.
Did you also know that Women are NOT the only ones who can develop breast cancer?

So this week, I am going to focus not on Halloween - everyone else is doing that - but on Breast Cancer Awareness, with the release of a few Breast Cancer Awareness patterns - the first one here:

CP64 - Halloweenie Tech Bag

Halloween has been, for years, attempting to edge Christmas out as "My Favorite Holiday"..
Admittedly, I have always had immense pleasure in BOTH...  but for very different reasons...
Anyone who has followed FDbyK4TT long enough - knows I LOVE me some Horror Movies...

"Tender lumplings everywhere
Life's no fun without a good scare
That's our job, but we're not mean
In our town of Halloween"

But you can watch horror movies and eat candy 364 other days a year... Now Christmas ... somehow growing up in the mid to northeast...
Christmas has always been a "cold weather" only thing.

In the past few years, however, Halloween has edged out in front just a bit...  Perhaps because it comes first in the line up, and by the time New Year's rolls around, I am exhausted...
We'll just have to see what I am in the mood to create in the next few weeks, but currently... it's all about the Spooks & Thrills of Halloween!

CP63 - An 8 Legged Little Nope

My daughter has a love of nearly all creatures, INCLUDING 'nopes'.
For those who are unfamiliar with the term Nope in relation to a creature.. there are quite a few....

a Fuzzy Flying Nope - is a honey bee
there's the Fluffy Fat Nope - a bumble bee..

But a NOPE can be any bug really!!  Why call it a nope?.. well, because when you go to reach for something and you see a certain bug(s) in the general area - most people yank their hand back and say "nope!"

Tips & Tricks : Head Hack

Another Amigurumi TIP to share with you.

It's been a while since I've put up an Amigurumi Tips and Tricks.  So tonight, while I was working on a new project - I thought it would be a perfect time to put up another little tip to help make your Amigurumi Making a little easier.

There is little doubt that in 99% of amigurumi projects you take on, you are going to spend the most amount of time on the HEAD.

There's indentations to be made, eyes to sew on, ears, perhaps even mouths, eyelids, spots, freckles.. whatever!!

There's so much to do with the Head - and let's face it, it's one of the most critical parts of the entire project.  But in creating the face, there is plenty of room for error and stuffing bunchup - which can change the over all appearance of your final project - and not always for the better.

What I like to do is save the 'finishing' ("Finish off, leaving sufficient tail remaining to weave through the front loops of Rnd XX to close opening") for the very end, when I am completely done with the Head and all it's parts.

The Head has a natural 'hiding spot' that you don't have to worry about snagging any stitches while putting those loose ends to bed!
Just save that final step of the finishing until you are all done!!  This also helps when you have the stuffing 'shift' or bunch up, due to it being pulled tight in some areas while sewing.
With the opening in the back (or bottom of head), you have some 'wiggle room' to make corrections.  You can add more stuffing to help balance out any spots that are lacking or just have a safe spot to tie all those loose ends!

I hope this tip helps you in your next Amigurumi Project!
Happy Crocheting
~K

NEWS:

Wow a News Update??  Yeah, I know... it's been pretty rough here.  I've had my good days and my bad days.
The good news is that my doctor thinks my injury is nothing more serious than Cervical Radiculoparhy (or herniated/bulging disc in the neck).  And while it may not be as serious as originally feared, it's still just as painful most days since it is affecting the Radial Nerve of my dominant arm.

But worry not - I do get SOME hooking in between standing at the microwave praying for the rice bag to heat up more quickly and thinking everything is back to normal :)

I am hoping ... HOPING... I can do my "Christmas in July" with some new Christmas Crochet Patterns... and I am still striving to meet my 50 new patterns this year challenge.. but ... it's all just a matter of timing!  If need be, I'll have a "Christmas in September".. lol

As you may have noticed.. THERE WILL BE A FFFG this week!  So make sure you check the page on Wednesday and if you enter, on Friday!

And finally, since my Spring has been pretty much all down time - I will be working this Summer rather than taking Summer Break with my kids.  So we'll be making up for lost time, just as soon as I am all healed up!
(Well, it's not as great a sacrifice as it may sound : 1 graduated High School June 1st - yeah!! and the other has started working at a local establishment, so between work and her leisure activities, she's never home anymore anyways... )
