Holy Flippin' Smokes

I have had some quick 'testers' before, but Claudia set a record I think...

Flip isn't even done on MY end yet, but he's all tested and ready to be published ..  which I will most likely get around to doing tonight -
those who are eagerly awaiting Flip... blame the people!

I have promised the people a 'Day Out'..
The weather has turned here - spring is in the air and because the people are still considered 'home schooled' (although they do go to school for a few hours) - MCAS means they do not get time at school today..
Since one is missing gym and the other absolutely hates not being able to go to school for a few hours everyday  ...
I am thinking a walk to the beach may be in order .. and definitely a 'yard clean up'...
perhaps I will find something in the soil which will inspire me for even more fiber goodies!

In the mean time..
My very good friend Erin has a tantalizing little friend for everyone who is feeling the Spring bug's bite...

"The legendary, slightly annoying guardian of the forest... the Lorax."

Which you can pick up completely FREE from her Facebook Page - so please, go take a look at Erin's Toy Store,  "Like" her page and get out today and PLANT A TREE!

Flip? Flipp? Flippin?

Oh it's a Frog!  :)
Here is your first real look at Flip the Frog.

Admittedly, frogs are not my favorite of all nature's creatures.. although, when I see them in my garden; I often just have to hold them for a minute or find a nice juicy worm to feed them, before allowing them to go on their merry way.. (yeah, I am weird like that.. the Mother in me, have to make sure everyone eats..)...
but Flip really has stolen my heart.. I don't think I am going to let him get adopted out.

I think it's those big, soulful eyes of his that got me.  Or maybe it's just that he looks so sad because it took me nearly a month to finish him up and give him a name...
Standing, he is roughly 12 inches in height and about 7 inches wide at his largest point.  I placed him here will JellyBean (sold separately) so that you could see just how well they compliment each other.
Boys and Frogs.. a natural match right?  Even in the Bunny world.

Flip has been sent off to an associate, as of a few minutes ago, and I will begin work on a photo tutorial for his adorable webbed feet later this afternoon to be included in the pdf which should be out later this week.

Jellybean & Peep

The pdf's are all written up for all 3 bunnies (Peep, Jellybean dressed and undressed) and just awaiting the photo shoot.
I had hoped to have at least Nakid Jelly up tonight for sale - but I would rather have all 3 up at the same time to avoid confusion and ensure that you are able to purchase the item you want and not have 'regret' ("oh I should have bought the dressed one!").

But.. believe me, I think you will be surprised at how quickly they work up - you will have plenty of time to get these lovely's done in time for the Easter holiday.

And because Barb asked/commented on it yesterday ... I thought I would give you a preview of another design that will be hopping in later on this week. (who measures about 12 inches in height)

**please pardon our tails and pins and bad lighting.. he has been off to the tester, but not completely sewn together yet

and of course the Duckling you saw a glimpse of last week and I am going to try to get one more in the spring collection out before the end of the week - "Lovey" - so we will see :)

I am going to take a deserved break tonight and watch Lord of the Rings, curled up with my big baby next to me - that would be the dog - as it is a 5am wake up call after a "week" of vacation.

Materials:
Models use Size G/6 (4mm) Crochet Hook - Gauge is NOT crucial
Red Heart Super Saver Yarns in colors: Honeydew, Spring Green, Tealeaf and the tiniest piece of Hunter Green (a few inches for mouth of frog)
6- 6mm onyx rnd beads (for eyes)/2 for each
Small amounts of Polyfil

TADPOLE
Body:
with Honeydew (or color of choice)

Using whatever method fits you best, [Magic Circle] or [chain 2, begin work in 2nd chain from hook] - 8 sc in st
___ Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (24 sts)
___ Rnds 4-9: sc in ea st around  (24 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 10: [sc in ea of nxt 4 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (20 sts)
___ Rnd 11: [sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 12: sc in ea st around (16 sts)
stuff head and body to this point - rest of the tail can be very LIGHTLY stuffed or left unstuffed (model is only stuffed in head and up to this point).

___ Rnd 13: [sc in ea of nst 2 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (12 sts)
___ Rnds 14-15: sc in ea st around  (12 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 16: [ sc in nxt st, Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (8 sts)
___ Rnds17-18: sc in ea st around  (8 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 19: [Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 4 times  (4 sts)
___ Rnd 20: sc in ea st around, ch 2
Finish off, leaving tail to help shape the end of the tadpole.  Very carefully, trying to keep as much of the ch-2 to keep a 'point' at the end of the tail; sew the small opening closed.
While shaping the tail, remember you aren't making a male's tadpole *smile* - give the tail a more box-y look by first folding the tail flat and stitching it together so that it remains flat; then at about rnd 10, sew from top to bottom.  When finished with shaping, bury tail inside body to hide.  Curl the tail with your hands, by bending in any direction you wish.

Eyes (Make 2)
with Honeydew
Using same method you used to begin body,  4 sc in st.
Finish off.  When sewing eyes to head, ly flat, placing your 6mm bead in center.  There is only a touch of an 'eye bulge' with a tadpole.

METAMORPH
Body:
with Tealeaf

Using whatever method fits you best, [Magic Circle] or [chain 2, begin work in 2nd chain from hook] - 8 sc in st
___ Rnd 2: [Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (16 sts)
___ Rnd 3: [sc in nxt st, Inc in nxt st] 8 times  (24 sts)
___ Rnds 4-8: sc in ea st around  (24 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 9: [(Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 4 times, sc in ea of nxt 4 sts] twice  (16 sts)
stuff head - tail is only lightly stuffed

___ Rnd 10: sc in nxt st, (Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 3 times,  sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, (Dec nxt 2 sts tog) 3 times, sc in nxt st  (10 sts)
___ Rnd 11: sc in ea st around  (10 sts)
___ Rnd 12: sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in ea of nxt 3 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in nxt st (8 sts)
___ Rnd 13-14: sc in ea st around (8 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 15: sc in nxt st, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in ea of nxt 2 sts, Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in nxt st (6 sts)
___ Rnd 16: sc in ea st around (6 sts)
___ Rnd 17: [Dec nxt 2 sts tog] 3 times  (3 sts)**
** If this is unattainable, Dec as many times as you can - then finish by sewing the opening closed.
Finish off, bury tail inside body to hide.

Eyes (Make 2)
with Tealeaf,
Using same method you used to begin body,  4 sc in st.
Finish off.  When sewing eyes to head, you want to give the illusion of a larger 'frog eye'.  Place your 6mm onyx bead in front and use the eye piece to frame the bead at about rnd 2.

Front Leg (Make 2)
with Tealeaf,
Using same method you used to begin body, 5 sc in st.
___ Rnds 2-6:  sc in ea st around  (5 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 7: (Inc in nxt st, sc in nxt st) twice, Inc in nxt st (8 sts)
___ Rnd 8: sc in ea st around  (8 sts)

Fold flat and work through both front and back sides (4 lps)
___ Row 1: [Dec nxt 2 sts tog] twice  (2 sts)
Finish off, leaving tail for sewing leg to body at about rnd 6.

Back Leg (Make 2)
with Tealeaf,
Using same method you used to begin body, 8 sc in st.
___ Rnds 2-5: sc in ea st around (8 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 6: (Dec nxt 2 sts tog, sc in nxt st) twice, Dec nxt 2 sts tog  (5 sts)
___ Rnds 7-11: sc in ea st around (5 sts/ea rnd)
___ Rnd 12: (Inc in st st, sc in nxt st) twice, Inc in nxt st  (8 sts)
___ Rnd 13: st in ea st around  (8 sts)

Fold flat and work through both front and back sides (4 lps)**

Biology: The Life Cycle

I hated biology in school.  Of course, back then, it was still 'appropriate' and a course mandate that you actually dissected an animal in order to pass the Science course.  Thank goodness that organizations such as PETA has put an end to such graphic barbarianism.  (Well, for the most part - I think some schools still kill helpless froggies)

In the 3rd and 4th Grade however, the intricate functions and placement of the inner organs of a living animal are something found in odd cartoons or sci-fi movies, when some fierce beast's "guts" get spilled after the hero slays them.

But the little ones learn about the Life Cycle.
From Seed to Plant
From Catapillar to Butterfly
or from Egg, to Tadpole, to Metamorph, to Frog..
the later, I just had to work up in fiber...

I am working up the pattern, to share with you here on the FiberDoodles by K4TT Blog.  The pattern(s) will consist of the Tadpole, the Matamorph and the Frog.  The eggs and the water lily were ad-libbed on the fly and I didn't write down exactly HOW I made it - but the rest I hope to have up tomorrow for anyone who feels like making a little science project :)
