The Janelle Blanket

As every hooker learns, once someone discovers your creative skills; you are going to get requests for gifts to give. Friends, family members even coworkers will ask you for a handmade blanket or cap to give to a new mom, a sick friend or as a "heirloom gift" to treasure.

It's always good to have a memory file of quick and easy crochet stitches that make for beautiful (not to mention quick) projects that can be completed in a weekend or so.

This was the case with The Janelle  Blanket that my daughter asked me to make for a school administrator's new baby.

What's a Mom to do?  (hint - you can't say no...)
You take the gifting needs as an opportunity to teach your child an easy stitch that makes for an easy, but memorable and thoughtful gift!

The Janelle Baby Blanket is full of texture and beauty.  Choose your own color scheme or use the one here to create a gift sure to be cherished.

Lullaby and Goodnight

Lullaby, and good night, in the skies stars are bright
May the moon, silvery beams, bring you with dreams
Close you eyes, now and rest, may these hours be blessed
Till the sky's bright with dawn, when you wake with a yawn

Lullaby, and good night, you are mother's delight
I'll protect you from harm, and you'll wake in my arms
~ as performed by Jewel/'09 Album Lullaby

Remember when monsters were REAL and things that went bump in the night had fangs and claws? Yeah, it's been a while - now most of the monsters have 2 legs and capped teeth.  But my own childhood, what a glorious time to be a kid, when The Boogieman was just about the only thing a good kid really had to worry about!

It's 1982 and Hasbro made those all those horribles of the night disappear, with the debut of their Glo Worm nightlight toy.
For those who are too young to remember and those who've never heard of a Glo Worm, their little heads were made with a special plastic, that allowed them to glow in the dark. They had a plush body (that encased the battery pack) making the Glo Worm the first nightlight that a child could cuddle with as they fell asleep. Told you it was great to be a little kid in the 80's!

This sweet little bug became a staple in many a child's bedroom and those scary monsters lurking in the dark, were no match for Glo Worm’s glowing cuteness.
Well, they say, all thing come back around, and this little bug was the inspiration behind the newest addition to the FiberDoodles by K4TT Pattern Library.
Introducing Snuggle Bug and Blanket.

This sweet little plush is perfect for your toddler to cuddle with on those stormy nights, when the monsters still lurk outside windows - or while just laying in the light and watching television.  These vivid colors, although not battery powered, are positively charged with smiles and good feelings. Sold as a set (blanket and bug) or separately (Snuggle Bug single or Snuggle Blanket) this soft little cutie is bound to not only bring back memories, but to help create fond ones as well!

Hello Fall! Time to Get Back to Work!

It's Fall and I have to admit, I truly love this weather.
Perhaps it is due more to coming off a hot summer.  The cool air of fall somehow seems to forgive the lazy days of summer and generates a feeling of crisp rejuvenated exhilaration..
... or perhaps, it's simply because it means that SNOW and the holidays will soon be here..
Either way, as my associate recently remarked, I often go on 'creative overload' during the fall months!  And that has certainly happened again this year.

As many already know, I began taking the summers off about 2 years ago.  The heat and the humidity of working with yarn is often annoying enough - but to try and design in those conditions are completely frustrating!

So I get the bulk of my charity works done during July & August - which gives me more freedoms (theoretically) to design during the fall and winter months, when it's cool.
The hopes for this year are to release a new pattern (at least) every Tuesday during the months of October and November.
Well, at least that is the hopes currently.

Recently released (Tuesday, 30 Sep 2014)  the ADD-ON pattern for Baby's First Plushie - Teddy

This quick little add-on will transform an already adorable bear into your child's favorite storybook character.  This is not a stand alone pattern.  You need to have the Baby's First Plushie - Teddy in your collection before being able to benefit from this add-on.

Purchase Baby's First Plushie - Teddy and the Baby's First Plushie - Storytime Tribute on Etsy.com

Also, as September drew to a close, FiberDoodles by K4TT, (as some many have already discovered) relaunched it's Facebook page!
It is the hopes that by using Facebook, rather than blog or forum, I will be able to interact with you more quickly and get to know my clients on a more personal level.
If you have a Facebook account, stop by and 'like' the FiberDoodles by K4TT page.

Special Delivery, Brought to You by Sammy

The Hub had grown increasingly suspicious of me as of late...  I guess it is to be expected when more and more infant items are seen in an otherwise, infant free home.  The latest, prompted the question...
"Umm.. Honey, are you trying to tell me something?"

I'm not, but perhaps Sammy is.

I'm kidding.  The days of surprising the Hub with announcements of our growing family are long done. Well, except for perhaps, the 4-legged variety.
But that has not stopped my love for 'all things baby'; after all, there are plenty of friends and family who are still adding to their numbers.

Sammy the  Stork was created just for that purpose.  What a glorious bird to sit atop a table - what a conversation piece - what a memory.  Sammy is the sort of baby shower gift that will deliver your message of pride and excitement at any Mom's party! Sammy is happy to carry your private message, gift card(s) or cash inside his Messenger Bag or just stand/sit as a table display to bask in all the love of such a monumental occasion.

Sammy the Stork makes a huge impression!  Standing at almost 2 feet tall he would! (approximately 16" in sitting position).   Say congratulations in a BIG way!

This pattern contains 18 pages of written instruction and detail oriented photographs and tutorials to help you create your own Sammy the Stork Plush and is labeled as "Intermediate". To complete this pattern, it is expected that you already know crochet basics such as how to chain, crochet using single crochet stitches, double crochet stitches, treble crochet stitches and how to change yarn colors. You should also know how to crochet in the round, crochet in rows, crochet using a “chain start”, crochet an opening closed, how to increase and decrease crochet stitches as well as how to make use of Back and/or Front Loops Only.

Special Pig

The Pillow Pal Piggy has been sitting in a folder on my computer, just waiting for someone to think he was a Special Pig...

Pigs have long been associated with being messy.. over indulgent and ... well, not always the best when it comes to pets - despite such famous pigs as Wilbur from Charlotte's Web fame.
Although, from personal experience, I can tell you all of the stereotypes about pigs are FALSE.... these creatures are highly intelligent, very fastidious and genuinely affectionate to their human pets.

So it was one of those patterns which I figured would be in my private collection and used when family or friends requested a piggy to cuddle with.  Imagine my surprise when I had clients and blog readers ask if I was going to make a Pillow Pal Pig!  I am proud to introduce you to the Pillow Pal Piggy - ready to squeal his way into your heart.

The 7th in the  Pillow Pal line,
contains 8 pages of pattern instructions, with detail oriented photographs to help you bring this 16 inch friend to life.
To complete this pattern, it is expected that you already know crochet basics such as how to chain, crochet using slip stitches as well as single crochet stitches and how to change yarn colors. You should also know how to crochet in the round, crochet in rows, crochet using a “chain start”, crochet an opening closed, how to increase and decrease crochet stitches as well as how to make use of Back and/or Front Loops Only.

Pillow Pal Triceratops

Next to Tyrannosaurus Rex, the Triceratops is the most recognizable animal from the dinosaur era.

This sweet little Tri loves to watch cartoons in the morning and whole grain cereals with his tiny human friend.  His favorite, so I am told, is Honey Nut Cheerios!

The Triceratops Pillow Pal was requested by a very special little man who is battling Burkitt Lymphoma,  a bi-product of Children's HIV.  An estimated 2.5 million children around the world are living with HIV/AIDs, according to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (JNAIDS) "2010 Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic."
The 6th Little Pillow Pal pattern, Triceratops, contains 9 pages of pattern instructions, with detail oriented photographs to help you bring this 16 inch friend to life.
To complete this pattern, it is expected that you already know how to crochet using slip stitches, single crochet stitches, half double crochet stitches, as well as double crochet stitches. You should also know how to crochet in the round, crochet in rows, crochet using a “chain start”, crochet an opening closed as well as how to increase and decrease crochet stitches.
