Earth Day 2013

Wow another Earth Day is upon us!!
I really don't know where the time goes!  (It seems the older I get, the quicker the years seem to fly by... to be 17 again waiting for 18! or 20 waiting on 21!!)

I am afraid that I have not done as much to celebrate this "Earth Day", this year as I have in past years.  Although I reflect on a single day, generally I try to 'greener' myself each day of the year - less water usage, less plastic consumption, recycling/upcycling instead of trashing...
It is of my own humble opinion, that we can never do too much to try and heal what we've spent centuries destroying and taking for granted.

But this past 12 months,  I have actually slowed on my planting and putting back into the Earth as I had been doing in previous years - and this year I did not sign up for any "clean-ups".
I must admit, it snuck up on me! Had I not received an eMail about something else entirely, Earth Day 2013 could have completely passed me by...

I will figure out something - perhaps not for tomorrow, but for the weekend.  (Of course I will police my neighborhood tomorrow - but something 'more special' than just the usual)

"Planet Earth, are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spaceship, a large asteroid
Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my sweetheart, soft and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes, caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.
Planet Earth, gentle and blue
With all my heart, I love you."

Smile - Charlie Chaplin

Tuesday we commemorate the birth of Charlie Chaplin (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) and I cannot help but to be reminded of how fitting the song "Smile" is relevant to the events of our time and how often I, myself, need to be reminded to "just smile".    Thank you to the greats of the past for the inspiration of today.

And People Wonder WHY?

Each year, I am asked to either create a specific doodle, make any of my already published doodles and/or crochet up another artist's work for one charity project or another...
and each year, I begin earlier and earlier so I don't have to answer "I can not" to those who ask.

Well,  they say a picture is worth a thousand words..
HERE is the real reason I often fall behind -

My finished items are being ... well, in this case: MOOSEknapped..
(napped being the real story behind the photo!)

Yes, that is my doggie - all 185lbs of him, curled up with a charity order that is being put together for this fall (so I have time to remake the KISS Moose)  - but my finished doodles are always being snagged up by the most unsuspecting of characters!

So you see, it's not my health issues, not a creative block or even a hand cramp that has me falling behind...
it's the CUTENESS of it all!

(actually this is a rare occurrence - as the big beastie loves to EAT plushies ... and paper and gloves and.. well, whatever else happens too close to his area..
but as I ran out of the bags which I use for storage, I had the Moose sitting on the kitchen table to remind me to get more bags this weekend... and well, apparently one of the people moved it - usually it is one of the PEOPLE who just "has to have" a doodle)

Introducing - Bao the Bookworm

Can you believe that another school year is drawing to a close?  Well, I can't!  It seems as though the school year just effortlessly slid by - of course, my 6th grader isn't complaining that summer vacation will soon be here!

So in time to bid those Skool Daze goodbye for another season,  I introduce you to Bao the Bookworm.

Wouldn't he look adorable sitting on that favorite teacher's desk?  A reminder for all time of a great year of learning and a heart-felt gift of love.
Bao the Bookworm contains 10 pages of pattern instruction and contains the Bonus Pattern - Nubby, the Amigurumi Pencil.

Bao stands about 9 inches in height and is simple enough to make up quickly!  Purchase your copy of Bao the Bookworm for your favorite teacher ~ you'll be remembered for years to come!
